Now that’s what I call a FIRE!

We have always had a problem with our sitting room fireplace in that some bright spark in the past decided to remove the chimney stack. A builder obviously told the previous owners that it would have cost too much to repair and that removal was the best option. Getting a stack rebuilt on a house with a steep pitch and lined has a incredible high price tag and so its one of those jobs we have just had to say no to for now.

But desperate to find a solution we looked into bio fuel and flueless fires. We found a company that supplied conversion packs so decided to give it a go. I got a second-hand grate from a local salvage yard for £50 and with a little elbow grease and some black grate polish it came up a treat. For less that £200 we have a really fire and enough fuel for the winter. I cannot sing the praises of gel fires enough , no smell, soot and surprisingly warm. Not enough on it’s own to heat the whole room, but it takes away the chill and gives that extra boost when needed. Take a look and see what you think.
